Let's talk about ways to up your hydration game.

Last year on Instagram I went on this big kick, posting the question each day " Did you hydrate today?"

I know it's really hard to maintain adequate hydration in the winter months. You may find yourself just not that thirsty compared to the warmer months or it may become more of a chore to you. I'll admit my hydration hasn't been at its best lately. I am more so writing this to encourage you and re-inspire myself to get back in the saddle when it comes to drinking enough water daily.

Here are 5 ways to encourage you to drink more water daily.

  1. Try lemon water, mint water, or fresh fruit infused water.

  2. Get a water filter for your tap water, not only will this save the planet from more plastic bottles but it may significantly improve the taste of your water at home.

  3. Go for water before you have caffeinated beverages in the morning. I like to drink a glass of water before I have my coffee. It's important to replenish your body from a night's sleep. We lose water in subtle ways like breathing & talking.

  4. Try different brands of water, what? Yes, water does have a taste. You may not know this if you're not an avid water drinker but yes different brands of bottled water taste different. You may find one you really like and stick to it.

  5. Take a water break, heading to the bathroom at work? Stop at the water cooler on your way there, a small reminder to drink a little more.

Hydration is important to keep our respiratory secretions thin and mobile ( VIP if you have any respiratory cold or flu). Water helps keep our skin, face, and lips from becoming dry. Drinking adequate amounts of water may help you feel more energized, sometimes we feel tired first ( our bodies cue to drink water ) and we head for some caffeine instead. Next time you feel that 3 pm lull, have a glass of water first. Being well hydrated helps prevent you from becoming constipated.
